About this course

This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.

The ISO 42001 for Everyone in the Office course is a comprehensive professional training program designed to provide employees, managers, executives, compliance professionals, IT teams, auditors, and other organizational personnel with a practical understanding of ISO/IEC 42001:2023 Artificial Intelligence Management Systems (AIMS).

Artificial Intelligence is rapidly transforming the way organizations operate, make decisions, interact with customers, automate processes, and develop products and services. Along with these opportunities come important challenges involving risk, bias, fairness, transparency, accountability, privacy, safety, security, and responsible use of AI.

ISO/IEC 42001 provides organizations with a structured management system framework for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving the governance of artificial intelligence. The standard applies to organizations that develop, provide, or use AI systems, making its principles relevant across industries and organizational sizes.

This course begins by introducing learners to ISO 42001 and Artificial Intelligence Management Systems. Participants will understand why structured AI governance is increasingly important and how an AIMS provides policies, objectives, processes, responsibilities, and resources for governing AI throughout its lifecycle.

Learners will explore how ISO 42001 relates to other established management systems, including ISO 27001 for information security and ISO 9001 for quality management. The course explains how organizations can integrate AI governance with existing management-system infrastructure rather than unnecessarily creating completely separate governance processes.

A major section of the course provides a clause-by-clause examination of ISO 42001 requirements, covering organizational context, leadership, planning, support, operations, performance evaluation, and improvement.

Participants will understand the responsibilities of top management, the importance of establishing an AI policy and objectives, and the need to integrate AI governance requirements into organizational processes.

The course provides detailed coverage of AI risk management, one of the most important elements of ISO 42001. Learners will understand how organizations systematically identify, analyze, evaluate, and treat risks associated with AI systems.
AI-specific risks discussed throughout the course include algorithmic bias, lack of explainability, model drift, autonomous decision-making, poor data quality, security vulnerabilities, and inadequate human oversight.

Participants will also study AI System Impact Assessments, which examine potential effects of AI systems on individuals and groups. These assessments consider factors such as privacy, non-discrimination, safety, well-being, economic opportunity, social participation, misuse, and unintended consequences.

The training includes a practical ISO 42001 implementation roadmap. Learners will explore how organizations can perform a gap analysis to evaluate their existing AI governance capabilities and identify gaps involving AI inventories, risk assessment, policies, roles and responsibilities, documentation, monitoring, and incident management.

The implementation section explains how organizations can progressively build their AIMS through governance foundations, AI risk management, operational controls, performance evaluation, internal auditing, management review, and preparation for certification.

Another important part of the course focuses on roles and responsibilities for AI governance. Participants will understand the role of leadership, AI governance committees, managers, technical teams, compliance professionals, system owners, and individual employees in ensuring that AI is used responsibly throughout the organization.

The course also examines ethical AI principles, helping learners understand why responsible AI extends beyond technical performance and regulatory compliance. Key principles addressed include fairness, transparency, accountability, privacy, safety and security, and meaningful human oversight.

Learners will study bias and fairness in AI systems, including how biased training data, algorithmic design, or deployment decisions can produce unfair outcomes. Understanding these risks helps organizations establish stronger controls and more responsible AI practices.

Documentation and compliance are covered in detail. Participants will learn about the documented information needed to support an AIMS, including the AIMS scope, AI policy, AI objectives, evidence of competence, AI risk assessment results, risk treatment results, AI System Impact Assessments, monitoring results, audit records, management-review results, and corrective-action records.

The course then explains audit and certification preparation, including the difference between Stage 1 documentation review and Stage 2 implementation verification. Learners will understand how organizations prepare evidence, demonstrate that processes are operating as documented, support auditor interviews, address nonconformities, and prepare the AIMS for certification.

To reinforce practical understanding, the final module provides two detailed real-world case studies covering ISO 42001 implementation in financial services and healthcare AI governance.

The financial-services case study examines practical challenges involving AI inventories, risk assessment, model drift, bias monitoring, documentation, governance responsibilities, and integration with existing management systems.

The healthcare case study explores responsible governance of AI systems used in clinical and operational environments, where issues such as patient safety, privacy, bias, regulatory requirements, and clinical efficiency require particularly careful management.

The complete course is organized into 8 comprehensive modules, beginning with foundational knowledge and progressing toward practical implementation, risk and ethics management, documentation, compliance, audit preparation, and real-world applications.

By completing this course, learners will develop a practical understanding of how ISO 42001 can help organizations establish responsible and effective governance over artificial intelligence. They will be better prepared to participate in an AIMS, understand AI-related risks, contribute to compliance activities, support documentation and audits, and promote responsible AI use in everyday organizational activities.
