ISO 45001 Lead Auditor Certificate: Certification Audit Practice (Cursus)

This course provides practical training in ISO 45001 lead auditor and certification audit practice, with a strong focus on professional judgment, audit leadership, evidence evaluation, Stage 1 and Stage 2 certification logic, findings, reporting, and ethical audit behavior.

Unlike introductory ISO 45001 training, this course approaches auditing from the perspective of a Lead Auditor. Learners explore how certification audits are planned, controlled, and performed, how audit teams are coordinated, how objective evidence is evaluated, and how reliable audit conclusions are developed.

The course begins by explaining the responsibilities and mindset of a Lead Auditor. Learners examine the differences between internal auditing and lead auditing, audit-team leadership, evidence-based judgment, impartiality, professional behavior, communication, and the responsibilities involved in controlling an audit process.

Audit planning is covered in detail, including the difference between an audit programme and an audit plan, defining audit objectives, scope and criteria, identifying audit risks, selecting appropriate audit methods, allocating team responsibilities, and using interviews, observations, document reviews, records, and sampling to collect meaningful evidence.

A major part of the course focuses on the Stage 1 certification audit. Learners study how Stage 1 is used to assess organizational readiness for Stage 2, review OHSMS scope and context, examine documented information, understand site-specific risks, evaluate worker and contractor considerations, and identify readiness concerns that could affect progression to the next audit stage.

The course then progresses to the Stage 2 audit, where the focus moves from readiness to actual implementation, conformity, and effectiveness. Learners explore objective evidence, audit trails, workplace observations, worker interviews, hazard identification, risk controls, consultation and participation, operational controls, and management of change.

Learners also develop practical skills in evaluating audit evidence and translating that evidence into clear and defensible findings. The course explains conformity, nonconformity, observations, opportunities for improvement, positive practices, minor and major nonconformity classification, and professional finding-writing techniques.

A structured finding formula—Requirement + Evidence + Gap = Finding—helps learners produce audit findings that are factual, traceable, neutral, and linked directly to applicable criteria.

The course also emphasizes professional reporting, corrective-action review, ethical conduct, impartiality, and the boundary between auditing and consultancy. Learners are taught to evaluate evidence objectively without designing solutions for the auditee.

This course is intended for professionals who already have some familiarity with ISO 45001 and internal auditing and want to progress toward advanced lead auditor thinking and certification audit practice. The course provides professional knowledge and practical training but does not replace an accredited Lead Auditor qualification where formal accreditation is required.
